17 Sep 5 Signs You Need A New Boiler
No matter how closely you look at your boiler, you won’t be able to find an expiry date. In fact, there is no definite point when you should trade it in for a younger model. That’s why it is very important to keep an eye on this important appliance so that you realise when the time comes to invest in a new one.
So, what exactly should you look out for? Here are five of the main signs that you might notice first.
1. Your Boiler Has Been Breaking Down Regularly
It’s normal for a boiler to need some minor repairs carrying out through its life, but if these become very common, it could be a good idea to think about getting a new one. Regular issues that should concern you include your radiators not getting hot enough, having to constantly top up the boiler’s water pressure, and always needing new replacement parts. Rather than continuing with this struggle and constant repair bills, it will be a whole lot easier to simply get a new boiler.
2. There’s A Yellow Flame On Your Boiler
The flame that you can see on your boiler should always be blue. If it ever changes to yellow, it is a sign that your boiler is releasing carbon monoxide, which is a very dangerous gas. Carbon monoxide is known as a silent killer and has poisoned people while they sleep. To ensure that your family is safe from harm, you should turn off the boiler if the flame ever turns yellow, and look for a new, modern model.
3. It’s Started To Smell
Can you smell rotten eggs? Don’t worry; it’s not your cooking – it is actually a sign that you need a new boiler! This is the smell of sulphur coming from the appliance. Any unusual smells from your boiler are a sign that it is time to get a new one. And, if you are ever in any doubt, it’s always a good idea to open a window in case the gas you smell is poisonous.
4. You Can’t Find Any Replacement Parts Anymore
If you ever need to fix an issue but have trouble finding a replacement park, it could be time to trade in your old model. Your boiler’s days are clearly numbered if manufacturers aren’t making the parts you need anymore! And you can’t go on a wild goose chase every time you need to replace something. It will be much more convenient to just buy a new boiler altogether.
5. It’s Always Leaking
Leaks come and go when it comes to boilers, but they should always be simple to fix. However, if you have one that is very persistent, you will have to get a new boiler. A leak that reoccurs is a sign that there is a big problem in the system. It will work out a lot cheaper to get a new boiler than simply paying for continuous repairs!
